White Out!

This morning we woke up bright and early, because today was the day for my 21 week ultrasound appointment. We have been so excited for this one, because you get to see the baby and make sure its growing and stuff. Well the phone rings at about 6:45 am, its the receptionist at the clinic saying that they had to cancel our appointment due to the weather. Apparently most of the staff comes in from near the Wisconsin border and there was no way they would be able to get in for the 8:00 am appointment. We were BUMMED!

Thomas had a big work function (breakfast type welcome thing for the company that is in the process of buying theirs out) this morning which was suppose to start at 8:00 am as well, his boss had said it was ok for him to miss it due to my appointment, but that everyone else was expected to be there! So being that there was no appointment now, he wanted to make sure he got there in time…then we looked outside! Oh my gosh…snow, snow, and more snow!

We decided it would be best for him to take the train, instead of trying to fight traffic on the interstate, so the plan was for me to take him to the train and drop him off so that I could take his car to work. We didn’t want to break out the festiva for this one:)
Well it took us a while to even get out of the parking lot and then when we finally did, the roads were a mess! Most had been cleared earlier, but already more snow had accumulated on them. While Thomas drove to the train station, I pretty much winced in pain, thinking I was going to have to drive back home and then to work again (being I don’t start until 9:00 am, and it’s about 7:30 am at this point). Low and behold, we finally make it to the train, Thomas and I decided it was best for me to just go straight to work (my work is about 8 minutes from the train station and I just need to go down one straight road) instead of trying to go back home for fear that I would get stuck. So I took off, and it took me forever! I think about a half hour to go about 4 miles. It was by far the worst driving conditions I have ever driven in…and I grew up in ND! So I am almost to my turn for work, when my defrost and windshield wipers can’t keep up, and now my three feet of visibility became about three inches…I could feel the tears welling, because if I had to stop, I would be on the road with about 50 cars behind me and I didn’t know what I was going to do, so I just kept going in a straight line hoping I was on the road. I had the passenger side window rolled down to see, and then I saw my turn so I turned in and at that point you couldn’t see out the windshield at all-I mean at ALL, so I rolled down the drivers side window (yes, I said rolled, remember I am in a 1994 Chevy Beretta…we so need a new car…but that’s another story) and stuck my head out only to get a bunch of snow in my face, so I decided to just barely lean my head out, so that one eye could somewhat see where I was going and hoped that I wouldn’t hit anything. Fortunately, I work in a pretty quiet business park, and everyone else that works there must have decided to stay home, because I was the only car in the area (except one…our die hard neighbor, one suite down from the one I work in). Anyway I am here at work, I can’t believe I made it. I hope it stops snowing, so I can go home today, I just might camp out at the office if it doesn’t.

Hope all of you are safe and sound!

One More

You can expect to see a lot of this sort of thing up here as soon as the little tike gets here.

I hope it makes you smile as big as it did both Jenny and me.

P.S.—I know my posts suck compared to Jenny’s….

22 Weeks (125 days to go)

My profile shot at 22 weeks…remember objects may appear larger in the rear area than in reality! (ok…maybe not, but humor me anyway)

The Baby is Kicking!

The little tyke is kicking up a storm lately. It’s pretty cool. Every once in a while I will look down and my belly is moving! Thomas says he thinks its doing Tae Bo…but he said it better not come out looking like Billy Blanks or I’m in trouble.

We had the ultrasound last week and decided not to find out the sex. We are going to wait and be surprised. It was very cool. When we saw the profile picture of the face, we both agreed it looked like a Grosgebauer…maybe too early to tell just yet, but it’s a hunch :-)

Little Update (23 1/2 weeks)

Feeling great

Babies heart rate 153 today at appointment (but was 140’s at ultrasound)

Gained a lot of weight (too big of a number to tell)

Mostly showing in the belly

No unique cravings

Itchy shins…don’t know where that came from…

Still have a gut feeling it’s a boy…

My Recommendation To You...

This is the 2nd year Thomas and I have done our Christmas shopping online…and believe me when I say it is so worth it! I highly recommend it to everyone! Shopping online is especially nice for us because we tend to travel for the holidays, and it allows us to buy a gift, have it gift wrapped, and mailed to the recipient’s house, while sitting in bed at home (thank goodness for wireless internet)! No need to bring presents on the plane or in the car.

You can find almost anything online that you can find in a store, trust me. It might take a few searches on Amazon/Google, but the time spent surfing the web is incomparable to the time you spend driving to the mall, finding a place to park…which is a feat in and of itself…then hoofing it three miles to the mall because the only parking spot left was as far away from the entrance as possible…then the fun sets in as you battle the crowds in the stores…not to mention waiting in the long lines (and getting stuck behind the shopper that we all hate, who needs to analyze each and every item’s price, pull out the store flyer to make sure their getting the discount, and decides to carry on a lengthy meaningless conversation with the clerk, who inevitably decides to go on break as soon as its your turn…and you know how the rest of the story goes)…and after all that you get to haul all your packages around with you while you finish the rest of your shopping. When you are finally ready to make the trek back to the car…you can’t help but wonder if some lunatic has scoped you out and is waiting in the trenches ready to jump you and steal your goods in the parking lot! People if this sounds like something you go through every year, please don’t subject your self to it anymore…it’s so much easier to buy gifts online.

A couple of websites I like are www.amazon.com and www.gifts.com! Happy shopping!

The Beretta is Dead...

I killed the Beretta tonight.

I got in a ‘small’ accident tonight with on my way home from work on I-94 North. I was hardly moving and didn’t cause any noticeable damage to the other vehicle, which was an extended cab pickup. Traffic was pretty much stopped so I figured I’d give my buddy a call to get an update on the doctor’s appointment he was going to have…yes…I am an idiot. I looked down quick to make sure I had the right number selected in my phone’s address book, when I looked up, the front end of my car was about 5 feet from going up the ass of the driver immediately in front of me. Thankfully I was probably only going about 10-15 mph and nobody was very close behind me. The airbag didn’t even deploy. I guess I’m not sure if that means I was barely moving…or that it was not a functional airbag…let’s go with the former…we don’t need to run the Beretta down any more than it already has been.

The guy I ran into was pretty cool about the whole thing. So, after we exchanged information, I asked him what the next steps were for me & he proceeded to explain how I should go about deciding if I should pay for the Beretta to be fixed through my insurance or just out of pocket. He started going into detail on how I should decide until I interrupted him and said “No, I don’t give a shit about my car, I’m curious about fixing your vehicle”. He looked at me with a blank stare, and then said “I didn’t really see any damage on my car”.

Just to double-check, we walked back to look one more time, there was a tiny little scratch on the bottom-side of the bumper. He rubbed it with his finger, looked at me and said, “I think I can live with that”.

I said: “Sounds good. You’re OK?”.

He said: "Yep. You?’

Me: “Yep.”

Him: “Ok. Good luck. Have a good night.”

Me: “You too. Sorry about the delay in your trip to wherever you were going.”

Him: “Don’t worry about it.”

Men rock.

Kicking the Tubes

We plan on doing the whole ‘YouTube’ thing with the little tike after ‘it’ is born, so I figured I would test out the ‘process’ quick to see if we were going to have any problems with the site.

This video seemed like the perfect fit:

Christmas 2006

Thomas and I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas this year! We spent the holiday with our families back in ND. Santa was very good to us again this year…I think “Baby Kersten” had the most presents under the tree, we can’t imagine what it will be like after he/she is born…there’s a good posibility the baby will be just a tad bit spoiled :-) Thank goodness for grandparents and aunts and uncles!

Thomas and I were surprised at how much the big town of Bottineau has changed. We don’t get back there too often, so it was a bit of shock to drive down Main Street and see the different store names and such. My parents recently moved into a new home, so they don’t occupy the old house on Ohmer Street any longer…they now live on the East side of town with all the cool people. However, Thomas’ ol stomp (Kramer) has stood the test of time, no changes there.

We had a great time hanging out with our families and visiting with old friends. The time flew by and before we knew it we were heading back home. It was a great trip!

Although…I am quite disappointed with myself as far as the amount of photos I took. I have only a whopping three to share with you.

My sister, brother and I outside my parent’s house.

Jeremy, Jess, and Dad at the land my parents purchased North of Bottineau.

Dad, Jess and Jer at Mystical Horizons…Point of Interest, NW of Bottineau…nuff said.
