New Location, New Look

I just got my server (and furniture) delivered to our place in Chicago. With all the changes lately & since I am trying to get the hang of this whole "Ruby on Rails/AJAX’ craze that is going on, I figured it would be the perfect time to switch to a blog engine that used the framework.

More posts and pictures to come in the near future. Glad you came back to check out the site…

I have migrated the articles fromt the old site, but if you are interested in looking at the old layout for nostalgic reasons…feel free…it is up & running at http://old.whitespur.com.

NerdTV

Robert Cringely, author of I, Cringely, has gotten PBS to support a weekly video show/blog interviewing tech heavyweights on a variety of topics. Each NerdTV episode is around one hour long and cover the interviewees’ opinion on where the tech industry has been and is headed. He has some pretty big names lined up for the next couple of months at least (Bill Joy, Steve Wozniak, Linus Toravalds, etc). I have watched the first installment and thought it was pretty cool. For me, it is probably more interesting than anything on the television stations I get. If you dig technology and have an hour or so to spare, check it out here

Possibly the Coolest Date Ever...

After a month of working our butts off on our new home and sleeping on the floor at night, Thomas and I felt like we deserved a night out on the town. We had heard about a summer concert series held in a place called Ravinia Park. I went to their website and saw that the Emerson String Quartet was performing, which sounded like a cool event…not that I knew who they were…but it would beat patching drywall any day, so I figured what the heck.

As I was looking into the ticket prices, I saw there were different options. You can buy tickets for general seating in the concert hall or on the lawn outside. We had heard that getting the tickets on the lawn was the best option, and for $10 how could you go wrong, right?

So we packed a blanket, a bottle of wine, and 2 wine glasses and headed out the door. When we got there we looked around for a place to “copasquat”. The lawn was filled with all kinds of people, young & old couples, familes, and friends of all ages. Some of the people had picnics, some cuddled as they sipped beverages, while others relaxed in lawn chairs visiting with friends…it was one of the most romantic settings I had ever been a part of.

As we poured ourselves some wine, the music started to play over the speakers scattered throughout the park at the perfect conversation volume. We spent the evening listening to the music and talking to each other…all outside underneath the stars.

It was definitely one of the coolest dates ever.

Address

Greasemonkey is cool. It is a Firefox extension…I don’t feel like getting into all of what you can do with it…but basically it allows you to customize your browsing experience across sites. One of the scripts you can install with Greasemonkey is ‘Greasemap’. This script will parse the webpage you are viewing and attempt to find street addresses. If it finds any, it will give you an option to view the location on google maps within the page. It’s kind of hard to explain without just setting it up and trying it out. If you are looking for a site to test it out on after you have it installed, here is my address:

1301 North Western Ave, Lake Forest, IL 60045

Pretty cool stuff…
